How to Play Pickleball: Basic Rules to Know
One reason pickleball has become so popular is that almost anyone can play. You don’t have to be especially athletic or have experience with racquet sports. People of all ages can enjoy the game together. The court is smaller than a tennis court, and players use solid paddles and a lightweight, perforated ball.
Learning how to play pickleball in Belize starts with a few basic rules. These beginner pickleball tips will help you understand what’s happening once you step onto the court:
Serve diagonally. Each rally begins with an underhand serve from behind the baseline into the opposite service court.
Follow the two-bounce rule. The serve must bounce before it’s returned, and the return must bounce before the serving team hits it. After that, you can volley or play the ball off a bounce.
Know the kitchen. The non-volley zone extends seven feet from each side of the net. You can enter it, but you can’t volley while standing inside it or touching its boundary.
Understand the serving order. In doubles, both partners generally serve before the opposing team takes over. The first service turn of each game is the exception.
Listen for three numbers. In traditional doubles side-out scoring, you’ll hear the serving team’s score, the receiving team’s score, and the server number. That’s why a game begins at 0-0-2.
Know the scoring. With traditional side-out scoring, only the serving team earns points. Games are commonly played to 11 and must be won by two points.
Don’t worry about memorizing every rule before you play. Pick up a paddle, start a game, and you’ll be surprised how quickly it all comes together!
